DESCRIPTION:
I was commissioned to do a remix for the upcoming Depeche Mode remix album. In the almost six years that I have worked for the band, I have been trying to get the parts for the song "Mercy In You". Well...I finally got them!

I decided to go against the grain of what most remixers do nowadays, and instead of creating a dance mix with a handful of words, I tried to make a "classic long version". At least, that was the plan. My final mix ended up being a very stripped down version of the track (the original was a bit muddy in production - sorry Alan), with a new funky beat, and a nice re-crafted middle break.

A side note regarding the audio sample. This is from the "middle break" area of the mix. Besides finally getting to hear Martin's whispered vocals clearly, I had some fun with Dave's vocals. In the first part, you'll hear Dave singing with...Dave. I re-crafted the vocal line so that he sang his own harmony line (he did not do this in the original). I also ran the same straight vocal line (not harmony) through a vocoder, merging it with the slowly stuttered keyboard line that is being used in the background. Great alternating effect, and with the slowly stuttered keyboard line, it made for a fresh feel to a classic track. While I did try to stay to the code of keeping this mix as a "classic long version", I couldn't resist having a bit of fun in the middle.
