Audio Vault - Radio Recording

William Orbit is a hero. He is one of the few people who when you see his name on a record, you just buy it. The music will always be gold.

I guess I should say "was". Sadly, it was announced this morning that William had passed away.

After the initial shock wore off, I thought I'd dig through my DAT tapes and maybe post one of the "William Orbit Stereo Odyssey" shows he did with KCRW, but then I remembered that he had already put those up on YouTube. I looked inside the DAT box and found a DAT tape with a simple sticker: "William Orbit KCRW 1/21/95".

Fire up the Panasonic 3800...

What you are about to listen to is an interview conducted by Liza Richardson on her show "Total Eclipse", which aired Saturday nights on KCRW. This broadcast is from January 21st, 1995, and is complete. The only things I did to the recording was to remove some of the FM hiss on the spoken parts, and I faded in the first song. I left all the other music in the recording.

A fun highlight of this recording for me: 23 minutes in, you'll hear William mentioned that he just talked to a guy on the phone called "BRAT Mix". That was me. :)
