Earth, Wind & Fire - "September" (Acapella) (from an unnamed source)
Daft Punk - "Digital Dub" (taken from a UK CD Single)
When Maurice White died on February 4th, 2016, it was yet another emotional gut punch to music lovers around the world, including myself. So many great talents have left us in 2016 (#fuck2016). While these artists have left a catalog of music for the rest of us to enjoy, it is still sad to think that we will never hear any new music from them.
I've seen "people" (trolls) posting comments on social networks along the lines of "Why do you care? It's not like you knew (name of person)." While that may be true, these musicians have touched us all with their music. I care because the music moves me. I care because yet another talented voice has been silenced.
So, when Maurice White died, I immediately started playing Earth, Wind & Fire music. In my collection of tunes, I even have some acapella tracks of Earth, Wind & Fire. As is usual when I play acapella tracks, I started searching for an instrumental match for "September". The Daft Punk track was one of the first choices, and it turns out, the best.
Some re-editing, some glitch-y editing, and bam. New mashup time!
I hope you all enjoy "Digital Love In September".
Now, some notes...
(1) After I finished the mashup, I hit YouTube to see if there was anything better to use for a video than just the Earth, Wind & Fire music video (there was not). It was then that I discovered that a few other music producers have done similar mashups to what I had just completed. This is now the second time this has happened (the first was my Beastie / Jay-Z mash). There's no harm in multiple people doing the same mash. Each is different, and cool in their own way. I just wanted to acknowledge that you have a few choices for this song combination, and I am happy that you are currently enjoying mine.
(2) 2016 has truly sucked. A terribly high number of dead musicians, #Drumpf and #Brexit, just to name a few things. I know the world sucks right now, but I invite you to escape for four minutes, and play this mashup. I mean, c'mon. It's fucking "September". There is no way you can play this, and not feel better afterwards.
Mashup first published online: June 27th, 2016.
